Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha led a security review meeting in preparation for the annual Amarnath Yatra, set to commence on July 3. The meeting, held at Lok Bhavan in Jammu, involved assessing the current security status and readiness for the upcoming pilgrimage.
Key officials, including Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, were present at the meeting, which primarily focused on law and order management and coordinated security arrangements. Emphasis was placed on ensuring a secure and smooth conduct of the significant pilgrimage that attracts numerous devotees.
Discussions revolved around enhancing preventive measures and maintaining a high level of vigilance in vulnerable areas. The need for seamless coordination among security agencies and prompt response mechanisms to address any potential challenges was highlighted by the Lieutenant Governor.
Efforts under the administration’s initiative to combat drug abuse and promote awareness in society were also reviewed during the meeting. Strategies to intensify anti-drug campaigns and enforcement actions were deliberated upon as part of a broader plan to tackle substance abuse in the region.
The Amarnath Yatra involves devotees journeying to the Himalayan cave shrine of Amarnath, located at an altitude of 3888 meters in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Pilgrims can choose between two routes to reach the cave shrine, with helicopter services available for their convenience.
