Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha recently inspected the South Kashmir Nunwan base camp of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, SANJY-2026, to assess preparations with senior officials. Sinha emphasized the importance of safety, security, and convenience for all pilgrims, stressing the need for valid registrations to reduce wait times. Over 20,000 Yatris have already undertaken the pilgrimage since it commenced on July 3.
During his visit, Sinha interacted with pilgrims, assuring them of the continuous efforts by the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board and yatra management departments to ensure a secure and seamless spiritual journey. The 4th batch of the Amarnath Ji Yatra included 6,721 pilgrims, consisting of men, women, children, sadhus, sadhvis, and foreign devotees. Separate convoys were organized for Baltal and Pahalgam-bound pilgrims.
The 57-day SANJY-2026 Yatra, which began on July 3, will conclude on August 28, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals. Situated at an altitude of 3880 meters, the cave shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure believed to represent the mythical powers of Lord Shiva. Due to the area beyond the base camps being designated a ‘no-fly zone’, helicopter services are unavailable to Yatris this year.
