To encourage a drug-free lifestyle among young people, Jammu organized its inaugural international marathon covering a distance of 21 kilometers. The event, graced by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Bollywood celebrities, and international athletes, aimed to promote fitness and well-being. The marathon, featuring races of 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km, was a collaborative effort by the J&K Tourism Department and the Sports Council.
Actor and model Milind Soman expressed his excitement about the event despite the unexpected rain, anticipating a fun experience. Bollywood actress Gul Panag highlighted the marathon’s focus on peace and congratulated the residents of Jammu for their participation. J&K Minister Satish Sharma emphasized the promotion of tourism and brotherhood while encouraging people to prioritize health and fitness.
Nuzhat Gul, the secretary of J&K Sports Council, acknowledged the challenge posed by the rain but commended the participants and volunteers for their dedication. Joint Director of Tourism Aijaz Qaiser mentioned a slight disruption caused by weather changes but affirmed that the event started on time, with all runners embarking on their respective routes. He praised the enthusiasm and spirit of the people of Jammu and the support from national and international athletes.
