The Jan Suraaj party, led by Prashant Kishor, has approached the Supreme Court, challenging the validity of the 2025 Bihar Assembly election results. They are seeking a fresh election, alleging that the distribution of Rs 10,000 per woman under a government scheme during the election period disrupted fair competition. The party claims that providing benefits to 25-35 lakh women voters during the election amounted to corrupt practices by the ruling party.
The petition filed by the Jan Suraaj party argues that the additional beneficiaries added to the scheme and the payments made during the election violated several articles of the Constitution. They have also accused the Bihar government of deploying women beneficiaries at polling booths, which they deem as illegal and unjust. The party is urging the Election Commission of India to take action against these alleged corrupt practices.
Prashant Kishor, following the Bihar Assembly election, criticized the alleged bribery of poor families with Rs 10,000 each for votes, condemning it as a violation of democratic principles. The Supreme Court is set to hear the Jan Suraaj party’s plea, which questions the legality of such practices, with CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi presiding over the case.
