Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi highlighted the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting’s strong message of promoting practical cooperation for a free and open Indo-Pacific. The Quad, consisting of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, focuses on enhancing collaboration in various sectors such as maritime security, supply chains, critical minerals, infrastructure, and technology. Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar stressed the importance of addressing challenges like supply chain resilience, connectivity issues, and critical infrastructure gaps. He highlighted the progress made in areas like maritime security, technology, economic resilience, and disaster relief.
Jaishankar emphasized the shared responsibility of the Quad nations as maritime democracies and market economies to uphold a free and open Indo-Pacific. The ministers discussed the region’s role in global growth and stability, aiming to strengthen strategic confidence, ensure maritime security, and promote economic choices. The Quad’s commitment to fostering transparent partnerships and cooperation was reiterated, with a focus on advancing mutual interests for a prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
