Japan winger Takefusa Kubo, reflecting on the team’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 exit, believes the experience can propel them to the quarter-finals in 2026. Kubo, who played a significant role in Japan’s impressive World Cup campaign, is now expected to lead the team in the upcoming tournament. The Real Sociedad star highlighted Japan’s growth and increased confidence during the qualifying matches.

The defeat to Croatia in Qatar remains a painful memory for Kubo, who emphasized the need for attention to detail to progress further in the World Cup. Despite never advancing beyond the Round of 16, Kubo is optimistic about Japan’s chances in the upcoming tournament in North America. The midfielder stressed the importance of thorough preparation and mental strength in facing opponents.

Japan, placed in Group F for the FIFA World Cup 2026, will kick off their campaign against the Netherlands, Tunisia, and Sweden in the initial round. Kubo and his teammates are gearing up to make a mark in the tournament and aim to surpass their previous achievements on the global stage.
