India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, has joined the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru as part of a structured workload management program before the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. The focus of Bumrah’s time at the CoE is on strength and conditioning, with the BCCI’s medical team tailoring the program for India’s white-ball tour of England in July, which includes five T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals (ODI). Bumrah has been actively bowling during his stay at the facility and is set to rejoin his IPL team, the Mumbai Indians (MI), soon, as reported by ESPNCricinfo.
The premier fast bowler played a crucial role for Team India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final, where he took four wickets in his four-over spell, aiding his team in defending their title and securing a second consecutive championship. Concluding the tournament as the joint-highest wicket-taker alongside his teammate Varun Chakaravarthy, Bumrah was named the Player of the Match for his exceptional performance in the final against New Zealand. India’s victory over New Zealand by 96 runs in the final on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad marked their successful defense of the T20 World Cup title and the first win on home soil.
A key player for the Mumbai Indians since his IPL debut, Bumrah has amassed 186 wickets in 148 matches and is nearing Lasith Malinga’s record as the franchise’s all-time leading wicket-taker, currently just nine wickets away. Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians have commenced their preparations at the Wankhede Stadium as they aim to secure a record sixth IPL title. The team, which last won the trophy in 2020, is striving to end their longest title drought since their inaugural victory in 2013.
