In Deoghar, Jharkhand, the Anti-Corruption Bureau apprehended two employees from the District Land Acquisition Office for allegedly taking a bribe. The accused, identified as Niranjan and Nunu Dev, were caught red-handed while accepting money to expedite compensation release for land acquired under the Ring Road project. The bureau confirmed that the employees had demanded a commission of five percent of the total compensation from a beneficiary.
Large-scale land acquisition is ongoing in Deoghar for the Ring Road project, with affected landowners entitled to compensation. Allegations surfaced that some Land Acquisition Office staff were seeking kickbacks from beneficiaries in exchange for releasing their payments. Following a complaint by a pressured beneficiary, the ACB conducted a successful trap operation, arresting the accused employees during the bribe acceptance.
The arrested individuals are now in Dumka for further questioning and legal procedures. This incident follows recent arrests by the ACB of a police sub-inspector in Koderma and a woman Panchayat secretary in Gumla for bribery. The bureau encourages the public to report any instances of officials soliciting bribes for official tasks, promising stringent action against corrupt practices.
