Srinagar, July 29 (IANS) Security forces on Wednesday recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in J&K’s Kulgam district, while police attached the property of a drug peddler in Shopian district worth over Rs 18.76 lakhs.

A police statement says that an operation was carried out jointly by Kulgam Police, the 34 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the 18 Battalion of the CRPF in the Tantrypora–Sursnoo orchards.

Police say the operation resulted in the recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition, describing it as a major success that has dealt a significant setback to terrorist networks operating in the area.

The recovery of the arms and ammunition has defeated the designs of the terrorists to use these arms for disrupting peace in the area, police add.

In another operation, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday attached immovable property worth Rs 18,76,665 belonging to an alleged drug peddler in Shopian under its ongoing crackdown against narcotics-related activities.

According to a police statement, the attached property comprises a residential house belonging to Nazir Ahmad Lone, son of Rishi Lone, a resident of Kathohallan.

Police say the property is identified during investigation as having been acquired through proceeds generated from the illegal trade of drugs and narcotics.

The attachment is carried out in connection with FIR No. 27/2025 registered at Police Station Keller. The statement states that the attachment proceedings are conducted in the presence of a duly constituted police team, an Executive Magistrate, the Lambardar, and the Chowkidar, ensuring compliance with all legal procedures and maintaining transparency.

Police say the action is part of its continued efforts to dismantle the financial infrastructure of narcotics trafficking by targeting assets allegedly acquired through proceeds of the illegal drug trade.

In its continuing operation to dismantle the network of drug smuggling and drug abuse, security forces have been carrying out operations against drug smugglers and peddlers.

The action includes cancellation of driving licence, passport, Aadhaar card in addition to attachment of immovable and movable property created out of drug proceeds.
