The J&K Cabinet, under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, sanctioned a Rs 361 crore solid waste management project in Srinagar’s Achan area. This initiative involves setting up an 800 TPD Integrated Solid Waste Management Project at Achan, Srinagar, with a focus on enhancing waste management infrastructure scientifically. The project aims to improve waste processing capacity in Srinagar through modern systems for waste collection, segregation, treatment, and disposal.
The Integrated Solid Waste Management Project at Achan is anticipated to elevate sanitation standards, mitigate environmental pollution, and foster cleaner urban environments. It is also seen as a strategic move to support long-term urban planning and environmental sustainability in Srinagar. The decision aligns with the city’s escalating waste management needs due to rapid urbanization and population growth.
In a significant development, the Cabinet also greenlit the upgrade of the Sub-District Hospital Hazratbal by relaxing buffer zone restrictions under the Srinagar Master Plan–2035.
