J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah highlighted the need for sustained institutional coordination, scientific planning, and timely execution in conserving the lakes of the Union Territory. He chaired the 27th Board of Directors meeting of the Jammu & Kashmir Lake Conservation and Management Authority to assess the progress of conservation initiatives for lakes like Dal, Nigeen, Khushalsar, and Gilsar. The meeting, attended by various officials including the Chief Secretary and Advisor to the Chief Minister, focused on reviewing ongoing projects and discussing policy matters related to lake conservation.
The Board evaluated the implementation of decisions from previous meetings and the advancement of key conservation projects such as the Integrated Management Plan for the Dal-Nigeen lake ecosystem. The discussions also covered eco-development of lake hamlets, sewerage infrastructure, and other measures aimed at enhancing the ecological well-being of the lakes. Chief Minister Abdullah stressed the importance of maintaining institutional coordination, scientific planning, and timely execution for the successful conservation of Jammu and Kashmir’s lakes.
During the meeting, there were detailed talks on topics like strengthening the Authority, upgrading sewerage management systems, and conserving Khushalsar and Gilsar lakes. The Chief Minister instructed that proposals needing further refinement should be revised to incorporate feedback received during the discussions. He reiterated the government’s dedication to preserving the delicate lake ecosystem, emphasizing the necessity of scientific evaluation, environmental sustainability, and long-term public interest in conservation efforts.
Omar Abdullah also called for consistent monitoring of ongoing projects and enhanced inter-departmental coordination to ensure substantial enhancements in the conservation and management of Jammu and Kashmir’s lakes.
