Srinagar, July 30 (IANS) The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Crime Branch said on Thursday that it has filed a chargesheet against four accused in a Rs 15 lakh cheating case.
A statement said today that the EOW Kashmir of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday filed a chargesheet against four accused before a Srinagar court in connection with an alleged Rs 15 lakh cheating case.
According to the EOW statement, the chargesheet in FIR No. 77/2022 under Sections 420 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was presented before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Amin Bhat, son of Mohammad Afzal Bhat, a resident of Khanyar, Srinagar; Khalid Hussain Khan, son of Ghulam Hassan Khan, a resident of Gasiyar Hawal, Srinagar; Anil Kumar Maheshwari, son of Ganpat Lal, a resident of Satiya Nagar, Jhotwara, Jaipur, Rajasthan and Shashank Kumar, son of Surinder Singh, a resident of Uddai City, Pallapurram-2, Modipuram, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
The statement said the case originated from a complaint alleging that Mohammad Amin Bhat, along with Khalid Hussain Khan, who introduced himself as Area Sales Manager, and Anil Kumar Maheshwari, claiming to be Regional Sales Manager of M/s Assured Agro Food Industries, induced the complainant to invest Rs 15 lakh as a security deposit for the supply of cooking oil.
The accused allegedly represented that the company manufactured cooking oil and assured delivery of the stock within a week. However, no stock was supplied, prompting the registration of the case and subsequent investigation.
During the investigation, the EOW found that the accused, acting in conspiracy, had allegedly cheated the complainant on the pretext of supplying mustard oil.
Enquiries with the Registrar of Companies, Rajasthan, revealed that no company in the name of M/s Assured Agro Food Industries was registered.
The investigation further disclosed the involvement of Shashank Kumar of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, who was found to be the purported owner of the company.
Following completion of the investigation, the chargesheet was filed before the competent court for judicial proceedings.
The EOW advises the public to remain vigilant against such economic frauds and report suspicious activities to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir.
Victims may also lodge complaints through the official email of the EOW.
