The J&K government has directed the secretary of J&K Board of School Education (BOSE) to act as the board’s chairman. Additionally, the director of school education in Jammu will take on the responsibilities of the director of J&K State Council of Educational Research and Training (JKSCERT).
This decision follows criticism from J&K BJP leaders towards Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s administration. The BJP accused the government of delaying the appointment of a permanent chairman for BOSE to favor a particular candidate.
The BJP expressed concerns over the governance of JKBOSE, which has been without a permanent chairman since January 2025. Despite nearly a year passing, the government has not appointed a regular chairman, raising worries about the students’ future.
Questioning the government’s actions, the BJP demanded accountability for the prolonged delay in appointing a chairman. They criticized the alleged attempts to appoint close associates rather than deserving candidates, emphasizing the impact on students’ academic interests.
