The J&K Police’s Crime Branch conducted house searches related to an FIR filed in a land fraud case, as per an official statement on Thursday. The searches were carried out by the Special Crime Wing Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K in connection with FIR No. 06/2026, which was registered under Sections 420, 468, and 120-B RPC in Srinagar and Budgam districts.
The FIR stemmed from a complaint by a Humhama, Budgam resident, accusing Tariq Ahmad Sofi of fraudulently taking money for land in Narkara, Srinagar. Investigations indicated that Sofi and another individual, in collusion with a Patwari, used forged documents to deceive the complainant. House searches were conducted at various locations in Srinagar and Budgam to gather evidence.
The Crime Branch’s specialized units focus on investigating economic crimes that demand expertise and dedicated attention, distinct from routine law enforcement duties. The branch, with separate wings for the Valley and Jammu division, employs specialized teams to handle economic offenses exclusively.
