The J&K Students Association (JKSA) has reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for assistance in evacuating Kashmiri students from Iran. The association is concerned about the safety and well-being of Indian students, especially those from the Kashmir Valley, studying in Iran amidst the current disturbances. Parents of these students are distressed due to the lack of communication and fear for their children’s safety.
National Convenor of the Association, Nasir Khuehami, highlighted the plight of hundreds of Indian students, predominantly from Jammu and Kashmir, pursuing medical courses in Iran. With communication channels disrupted, families are anxious about the students’ welfare. Nearly 2,000 Kashmiri students enrolled in medical universities in different Iranian provinces are facing challenges due to the civil unrest.
Khuehami emphasized the need for immediate action to establish communication channels between Indian students in Iran and the Indian Embassy in Tehran. The Association is advocating for a comprehensive evacuation plan and coordination with Iranian authorities to ensure the safety and dignity of Indian students in Iran.
