Filmmaker Pragabhal Das’ movie “Jockey,” a gritty rural drama, is gaining popularity on Amazon Prime. Set in Madurai, it is the first Indian film centered on the ancient sport of goat fighting. The story follows the intense rivalry between Ramar (Yuvan Krishna) and Kapra Karthi (Ridhaan Krishnas), leading to their eventual downfall.
The film also features Ammu Abhirami and Madhusudan Rao in significant roles alongside Yuvan Krishna and Ridhaan Krishnas. To ensure authenticity, Pragabhal Das extensively researched Madurai’s goat-fighting community for three years. Additionally, the lead actors underwent thorough training with real jockeys to prepare for their roles.
Director Pragabhal Das expressed his joy at the success of “Jockey,” praising its unique blend of goat fighting and action that has propelled it to the top 10 list on Amazon Prime, ranking fifth in the action category. He credited platforms like Amazon Prime for showcasing niche sports to a wider Indian audience, providing exposure to local historical sports on par with mainstream ones.
“Muddy” director Pragabhal Das, known for his debut drama in 2021, leads “Jockey,” his second directorial venture. The film is produced by Prema Krishnadas, with C. Udhayakumar handling the cinematography. Noteworthy contributions include N.B Srikanth in editing, Rajakrishnan M.R in sound design, and an original score by Sakthi Balaji.
