Hollywood star Jodie Foster is disappointed with artificial intelligence (AI) for overlooking her portrayal in the original ‘Freaky Friday’ film. Foster, aged 63, expressed her frustration that when asked about the ‘Freaky Friday’ movies, AI fails to acknowledge her character, Annabel, in the 1976 version. Instead, it only mentions the 2003 remake with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, along with its 2025 sequel, ‘Freakier Friday’.
Foster highlighted the AI’s memory lapse in an interview with ‘Variety’, emphasizing that the technology neglects her role in the ’70s classic. Despite the success of the original movie, which earned over $25 million on a $5 million budget, a remake was directed by Mark Waters nearly three decades later. The remake featured Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman, a character inspired by Foster’s Annabel, and Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman, inspired by Barbara Harris’ role.
In 2025, a sequel to ‘Freaky Friday’ was released by filmmaker Nisha Ganatra, a movie that Foster has yet to watch. Reflecting on the different adaptations of the film over the years, Foster shared her admiration for Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, noting the changes in the storyline due to evolving time periods. Foster and Curtis, who are close friends, find humor in the fact that they both starred in different versions of the same movie.
