Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton criticized China for its ongoing threats towards Taiwan, labeling Beijing’s actions as significant risks to international peace and security. Bolton emphasized that China’s persistent intimidation of Taiwan poses a genuine threat, especially considering Taiwan’s firm stance on self-governance and its democratic system. Despite China’s assertive military maneuvers around Taiwan, the island nation remains resolute in defending its sovereignty with strong public support.
Bolton also supported the US government’s intervention in Venezuela by highlighting that any potential Chinese aggression towards Taiwan cannot be justified under similar circumstances. He stressed that actions against leaders deemed illegitimate or involved in aggressive activities that jeopardize regional stability may warrant international intervention. Bolton clarified that each situation, such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, must be evaluated based on specific facts and context, emphasizing that unprovoked aggression, as seen in Venezuela, cannot serve as a precedent for justifying other military actions.
