The judicial adjudication process for cases categorized under “logical discrepancy” is almost 78% complete, with over 13 lakh cases still pending as of Tuesday night. More than 700 judicial officers, including 100 from Jharkhand and Odisha each, are working to expedite the process, aiming to finish by the end of the week, according to a source from the CEO’s office.
While the exact number of cases excluded from the 47 lakh already adjudicated remains undisclosed, an average daily deletion rate of about 40% has been observed. Individuals affected by the deletions will have the option to appeal to one of the 19 Appellate Tribunals established for this purpose.
Following the publication of the final voters’ list in West Bengal, excluding cases under judicial review, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has suspended the block development officer (BDO) of Hanskhali in Nadia district. This action was taken in response to an incident of violence at an election-training center involving a teacher and electoral officer who was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress activists in the presence of the BDO.
The ECI has demanded a detailed report on the incident and an FIR has been lodged. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has forwarded a report to the ECI headquarters, resulting in the suspension of the concerned BDO.
