Strong contenders Kalinga Lancers will kick off their Men’s Hockey India League (HIL) campaign against debutants Ranchi Royals at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.
Kalinga Lancers have undergone rigorous pre-season training to enhance their structure, teamwork, and readiness for the league. Despite being new to the Hockey India League, Ranchi Royals boast a strong core team inherited from the former franchise Gonasika.
Head coach Jay Stacy emphasized the significance of preparation and composure for the opening game, stressing the need for clarity in roles and discipline on the field. He acknowledged the challenge posed by Ranchi Royals, commending their solid core and quality players.
The Lancers, known for their attacking prowess last season, aim to maintain their offensive style while shoring up their defense for the upcoming matches. Co-Captain Arthur Van Doren expressed optimism and a balanced approach, highlighting the team’s focus on reducing goals conceded while maintaining their attacking mindset.
Co-Captain Sanjay echoed the team’s excitement for the new season, emphasizing the importance of consistency and gradual progress throughout the matches. The team is geared up to play two matches in Chennai, with their second match against Bengal Tigers on January 8.
