A special Cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah discussed internal reservation in Karnataka, drawing criticism from the BJP for allegedly causing confusion among Dalits. The BJP, represented by former Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol, accused the government of failing to provide internal reservation effectively, risking societal discord. Karjol emphasized the need for justice to prevent potential street protests by communities seeking reservation benefits.
The BJP demanded the implementation of reservation benefits for 101 communities in line with Supreme Court directives and constitutional principles. Karjol urged the government to prioritize internal reservation and address any deficiencies promptly to ensure fairness. He highlighted a 30-year struggle for internal reservation in the state, criticizing the government for not adequately fulfilling reservation quotas for SCs and STs.
Karjol questioned the government’s approach to reservation policies, warning against caste conflicts and expressing doubts about Siddaramaiah’s leadership as an AHINDA representative. He referenced historical efforts to address reservation issues, including the formation of commissions and reports during previous administrations. Karjol criticized the current government for allegedly disregarding established recommendations and court rulings on reservation quotas.
Under the BJP government, reservation percentages for SCs and STs were increased to reflect population proportions, emphasizing a commitment to social justice. However, Karjol accused the current government of backtracking on these advancements and reducing reservation percentages, leading to accusations of injustice towards Dalits. He criticized the government’s decision to revert to previous reservation levels, undermining the progress made in reservation policies.
