Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra announced plans to present a detailed report to the party’s national leadership. This report will address the alleged instances of cross-voting and violation of the party whip by some BJP legislators during the recent Legislative Council elections. The party faced embarrassment as at least three BJP MLAs, potentially six, reportedly voted in favor of the Congress in the elections.
Vijayendra, along with other party leaders, including Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka and MLC Ravi Kumar, will meet with BJP National President Nitin Nabin to discuss these developments. An internal inquiry has already been initiated by the party, with a fact-finding committee led by senior BJP leader C.T. Ravi investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged violation of the party whip.
The findings of this committee will be submitted to the national president for further review. Vijayendra highlighted that he promptly informed the BJP national leadership about the situation following the election results. Responding to queries about former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda’s comments on the issue, Vijayendra mentioned that he had spoken with Gowda and intended to meet him personally upon his return to Bengaluru.
Regarding the suggestion to avoid holding a BJP Legislature Party meeting in Dharmasthala, Vijayendra stated that he had conveyed his opinion on the matter. He emphasized that the final decision should be made by Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka after consulting all party legislators and leaders. The recent Karnataka Legislative Council elections on June 18, 2026, saw the Congress secure 5 out of 7 seats, with the BJP winning the remaining 2 seats. The NDA-aligned JD(S) faced a setback due to significant cross-voting, impacting the election outcomes.
