The Karnataka BJP unit has expressed approval of the Centre’s move to halt the Metro fare increase in Bengaluru. Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka appreciated the swift action taken by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to address the issue and provide relief to commuters. Ashoka thanked Bengaluru MPs and BJP representatives for opposing the fare hike and reiterated the party’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the city and its residents.
BJP Yuva Morcha National President Tejasvi Surya protested the fare hike at a Bengaluru Metro station. In response to Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s comment calling him an “empty trunk,” Surya carried an empty trunk during the demonstration, criticizing the Congress-led government. Home Minister G. Parameshwara urged Surya to focus on securing funds for state projects, emphasizing the importance of collaboration for the state’s development.
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy clarified that decisions regarding the Metro project are made by the Central government. Reddy highlighted the role of the Fare Fixation Committee in determining fares based on project expenses. He criticized the BJP for spreading misinformation and urged them to base their statements on factual data, emphasizing the significant revenue contribution of Bengaluru to the state.
