The Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer has requested a report from the Ramanagara Deputy Commissioner concerning alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. This action follows Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s release of a video highlighting supposed “irregularities” in the revision process. CEO Anbu Kumar has directed the Deputy Commissioner to investigate and submit a detailed report promptly.
Officials have confirmed that the Election Commission is treating the matter seriously and has instructed immediate action against any officials found to have breached guidelines during the revision process. This includes issuing notices to those responsible for organizing the revision camp at a marriage hall and launching a swift inquiry. Strict disciplinary measures will be taken if violations are confirmed.
The controversy arose when Kumaraswamy alleged that instead of door-to-door verification, a large gathering from one community was assembled at a convention hall for the revision process. He called for the suspension of the Deputy Commissioner and action against negligent officials. The Union Minister also accused the Chief Minister of influencing the process and creating documents for alleged bogus voters.
Allegations of misusing government schemes to influence voters have surfaced, with claims of linking the revision exercise to state benefits. Kumaraswamy criticized the Chief Minister for alleged coercion and misuse of power. The Election Commission is expected to investigate the incident to determine if guidelines were breached and if punitive action is necessary.
