Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed gratitude to Indian soldiers for their sacrifices, emphasizing their crucial role in upholding the nation’s courage and freedom. Speaking at the Kargil Vijay Diwas event in Bengaluru, he paid tribute to the brave soldiers who lost their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. Shivakumar highlighted the significance of soldiers’ sacrifices, stating that their legacy of bravery and patriotism is everlasting.

Recalling the Kargil conflict, Shivakumar mentioned that 527 soldiers, including 13 from Karnataka, were martyred in the war. He praised the Indian armed forces for their unwavering commitment to defending the country’s borders in various challenging situations. The Chief Minister underscored Karnataka’s pivotal role in India’s defense sector, citing institutions like BEML, DRDO, and ISRO operating from the state.

Shivakumar drew parallels between different segments of society and the nation’s strength, likening soldiers, youth, women, farmers, and taxpayers to the fingers of a hand that unite to form a powerful fist. He reiterated the importance of Kargil Vijay Diwas as a day to honor the valor and dedication of the country’s armed forces. The Chief Minister also assured support for the families of both serving and retired defense personnel residing in Karnataka.

The Kargil Vijay Diwas event brought together military veterans, serving personnel, government officials, and the public to commemorate the sacrifices of India’s armed forces. Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy also paid tribute to the fallen heroes of Kargil, praising their bravery, courage, and patriotism that continue to inspire the nation.
