Reacting to allegations of inappropriate behavior involving Karnataka DGP K. Ramachandra Rao, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that no officer is above the law and that disciplinary action would be taken if necessary.
Siddaramaiah made these remarks while addressing the media in Belagavi, mentioning that an inquiry would be conducted into the matter and appropriate disciplinary measures would be implemented against the DGP if warranted.
The Chief Minister expressed his displeasure over the situation, following the circulation of videos depicting objectionable behavior by Ramachandra Rao with a woman in his office, which have caused widespread concern.
The videos, which have gone viral on social media, show Ramachandra Rao engaging in inappropriate conduct with a woman in his official chamber, including instances of kissing her while in uniform and in a suit, with the Indian flag and Police Department emblem visible in the background.
In response to the videos, DGP Ramachandra Rao dismissed them as “manipulated,” asserting that no such incidents occurred and indicating his intention to consult with his legal counsel regarding the matter.
The Karnataka government had previously placed Ramachandra Rao on compulsory leave in connection with a gold smuggling case, with allegations of collusion with actress Ranya Rao in the illegal activity, leading to an investigation and subsequent reinstatement.
