The Karnataka Congress faces escalating turmoil as Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar revealed that a leadership decision has been made, to be announced by CM Siddaramaiah. This development, disclosed on Tuesday, is expected to stir tensions within the ruling party.
Shivakumar disclosed, “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and I have deliberated on the leadership issue. The decision will be revealed at the appropriate juncture.” In response to Minister H.C. Mahadevappa’s controversial remarks, Shivakumar refrained from direct comment, emphasizing that the leadership matter has been settled after consultations with CM Siddaramaiah and the party’s high command.
Addressing speculation, Shivakumar clarified, “There are no hidden discussions. CM Siddaramaiah will address the issue when the time is right.” When pressed about a potential leadership change, Shivakumar evaded a direct response, asserting his prerogative to make statements at his discretion.
Regarding the overseas trip by Congress legislators, Shivakumar distanced himself, stating, “I am not privy to the travel plans. Whether personal or sponsored, it is between the travelers and organizers. As the state president, I lack details.” Reports suggest that supporters of CM Siddaramaiah undertook the foreign visit to downplay dissent raised by Shivakumar and his allies.
Shivakumar’s statements hint at a leadership decision endorsed by the party’s national leadership. He reiterated that CM Siddaramaiah will address the issue in due course. Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah has affirmed his commitment to abide by the high command’s directive, while his backers insist on his completion of the full term.
