Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara has expressed approval of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, emphasizing the importance of accountability for officials in positions of authority. Parameshwara, speaking in Tumakuru, highlighted the significance of ministerial responsibility in matters of national importance. He stated that the resignation of Pradhan underscores the obligation of ministers to take ownership of issues of national significance.
Referring to the NEET examination controversy, Parameshwara emphasized the test’s crucial role in shaping the futures of numerous students nationwide. He pointed out that allegations of question paper leaks had damaged the exam’s credibility, leading to widespread concern among students and parents. Parameshwara mentioned that students had protested across the country, demanding action against those responsible for the leak and the resignation of the concerned Union Minister.
Parameshwara noted that Pradhan’s resignation sets a significant precedent in public administration by reaffirming that individuals in positions of authority must be answerable for failures within their departments. He stressed that this action conveys a clear message that those in positions of responsibility should be held accountable for errors within their departments, ultimately fostering a culture of accountability in public administration.
BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashoka criticized the Congress leadership for alleged double standards on accountability, accusing the party of inconsistency in its approach to accountability. Ashoka claimed that the Congress ecosystem advocates for resignations and accountability while adopting a different stance in Karnataka. He suggested that instead of focusing on systemic reforms to prevent future question paper leaks and enhance recruitment processes, the Chief Minister had opted to hold Deputy Commissioners responsible for such failures.
