Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D. K. Shivakumar expressed disapproval of Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar’s decision to deny actor Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam the opportunity to form the government and prove its majority. Shivakumar emphasized that the Governor should not obstruct a party with sufficient numbers from staking a claim to govern. He cited past instances in Karnataka and nationally where single largest parties were permitted to form governments and undergo trust votes.
Shivakumar stressed the importance of allowing Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam to exhibit its majority, highlighting the essence of democracy where a single vote can determine the majority. He underlined the significance of respecting the people’s mandate and sentiments in a state. Additionally, he addressed proposals for a new Bengaluru North Corporation office, indicating that a decision on its location would be made after site inspections based on varied opinions from Ministers and Members of the Legislative Assembly.
In response to queries about a meeting with Ministers Satish Jarkiholi and Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Shivakumar clarified that the discussion centered on irrigation projects in Belagavi district.
