The Karnataka government clarified that there are no restrictions on media access at Vidhana Soudha. Responding to the Opposition Leader’s request to allow free entry for media coverage inside the premises, the government emphasized that accredited media with Information and Broadcasting Department cards face no limitations in covering events at Vidhana Soudha.
The government highlighted that a previous order restricting media entry into the Legislators’ House was issued in February 2020. This order aimed to ensure security and organized media interactions at the portico near the West Gate of Vidhana Soudha. Despite facing opposition, the government defended the necessity of these measures for safety and security reasons.
Critics raised concerns over the restrictions, arguing that they impede freedom of expression and hinder communication with elected representatives. The controversy surrounding media access at Vidhana Soudha intensified following reports of a gold theft incident within the premises, with some parties accusing the government of attempting to divert attention by tightening media access.
