The Karnataka government has decided to fully reopen jungle safari operations at the Bandipur and Nagarahole Tiger Reserves. This decision is based on the scientifically assessed carrying capacity recommended by a Technical Committee. The committee, comprising experts and government officials, evaluated the ecological carrying capacity of both reserves and submitted recommendations for regulating safari operations.
Safari operations will be conducted in a regulated manner, strictly following the committee’s recommendations. The objective is to balance tourism with wildlife conservation efforts. Karnataka’s eco-tourism potential has been highlighted, emphasizing a sustainable tourism model that promotes environmental conservation while creating employment opportunities and supporting the local economy.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to an eco-tourism model that prioritizes ecological integrity. This model aims to ensure that tourism contributes positively to wildlife conservation, local livelihoods, and enhances the visitor experience. The reopening of safari operations is expected to benefit tourists, local communities dependent on eco-tourism, and the overall tourism sector while safeguarding wildlife habitats through scientifically managed visitor management.
Safari operations at Bandipur and Nagarahole Tiger Reserves were suspended for over 100 days due to increasing tiger attacks. Following a series of deadly tiger incidents, the government had banned safaris on November 7, 2025. However, after assessing the situation, the government has now resumed safari operations in a phased manner, with strict regulations in place to prevent further incidents.
