The Karnataka High Court has approved Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh’s commitment to visit the Chamundeshwari Temple in Mysuru and apologize for mimicking a deity in the film Kantara Chapter-2. The court, led by Justice M. Nagaprasanna, acknowledged Singh’s pledge to rectify his actions regarding the temple deity’s portrayal in the movie. Ranveer Singh, represented by senior counsel Sajjan Poovayya, has submitted a revised affidavit expressing his sincere apology and agreeing to visit Chamundi Hill to seek forgiveness.
Meanwhile, advocate Prashant Methal, the complainant in Bengaluru, confirmed that the issue has been resolved, with the court expected to issue an order soon. Methal mentioned that arguments were presented regarding the timeline for Singh’s temple visit, emphasizing the importance of security considerations. The controversy, stemming from an incident at the 55th International Film Festival of India in 2025, led to a complaint against Singh for his mimicry being deemed offensive and blasphemous.
The court has stressed the responsibility of public figures like Ranveer Singh to be mindful of their actions, noting that freedom of expression does not justify disrespectful remarks about religious beliefs. Singh’s willingness to apologize and the court’s acceptance of the apology have been pivotal in resolving the matter peacefully.
