The Karnataka High Court criticized the state police for their handling of cases, urging them to prioritize real crimes over trivial matters. The court’s remarks came during a hearing involving a family accused of involvement in the disappearance of two cows. The petitioners sought to quash the FIR, claiming it was baseless and amounted to harassment.

Justice M. Nagaprasanna, presiding over the case, questioned the police’s delayed response to serious crimes while swiftly acting on minor issues. He highlighted a case where a criminal proceeding was initiated in 2026 for the disappearance of two cows in 2024, emphasizing the need for a shift in investigative focus.

The court expressed concern over the police’s approach, where victims of serious crimes face hurdles in getting their complaints registered, while cases like missing cattle from years ago are promptly pursued. Justice Nagaprasanna underscored the potential misuse of legal processes in implicating families without substantial evidence, leading to an interim order halting further investigation in the case.
