Karnataka Home Minister Parameshwara responded to queries about the demand for a Dalit Chief Minister, dismissing them as Opposition tactics. He praised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for his commitment to social justice. Parameshwara, a prominent Dalit leader, clarified that any decision on a Dalit Chief Minister rests with the Congress party.
Notably, there have been calls from CM Siddaramaiah’s camp for Parameshwara to be considered for the CM position in case of a leadership change. Parameshwara emphasized that the Chief Minister has been actively involved in budget discussions for the past 12 days, criticizing the Opposition for raising the Dalit CM issue unnecessarily.
Parameshwara highlighted that the decision on a Dalit Chief Minister lies with the Congress party’s leadership and will be made at the appropriate time. He reiterated Siddaramaiah’s long-standing commitment to social justice, emphasizing that it has been a core principle of his political career. Parameshwara emphasized the importance of peaceful celebrations during festivals and the need to prevent any misconduct.
Regarding the ban on mobile phones in educational institutions, Parameshwara mentioned ongoing discussions on the matter due to concerns about its impact on children’s education. He noted that various countries have implemented such bans, and a decision in Karnataka will be made after careful consideration of the implications. Parameshwara also addressed the issue of illegal migrants and the state’s efforts to ensure internal security.
On the topic of student elections in universities and colleges, Parameshwara discussed past incidents of violence during elections, leading to their ban. He mentioned the pressure to reconsider holding student elections and indicated that the Cabinet will decide on this matter.
