The Karnataka Education Department has mandated menstrual leave for women government employees in the state. This provision, granting one day of paid leave per month during the menstrual cycle, amounts to 12 days of paid leave annually. Women aged between 18 and 52 who are menstruating are eligible for this leave.

The order emphasizes that menstrual leave cannot be carried forward to the next month and does not require a medical certificate for availing. It is to be sanctioned by the competent authority responsible for casual leave approvals and must be recorded separately in the attendance register. Additionally, the leave cannot be combined with any other types of leave.

To avail of menstrual leave, women employees need to submit an application to the competent authority. They are advised to ensure that pending office or court-related tasks are appropriately managed before taking the leave. This policy is effective immediately for women employees within the specified age range and menstrual status.
