Karnataka Minister for Bengaluru Development, Krishna Byre Gowda, has initiated a drive to clear abandoned vehicles from public spaces in Bengaluru. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and the Bengaluru Traffic Police are jointly conducting this operation. Following a notice period, vehicles left unclaimed are now being towed away.
Gowda expressed concerns over the nuisance caused by abandoned vehicles, highlighting the inconvenience faced by residents and the negative impact on the city’s aesthetics. The authorities have identified and started clearing vehicles left on roads and footpaths, following legal procedures. Towed vehicles will be stored for 15 days before potential auctioning.
The minister emphasized that abandoned vehicles pose a challenge to public spaces and urged citizens not to leave their vehicles unattended in public areas. The Bengaluru Traffic Police identified 2,751 abandoned vehicles, with an additional 1,498 reported through the Astram App, totaling 4,249 abandoned vehicles in the city. The campaign aims to maintain public spaces with continued support from relevant authorities.
