The Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka, R. Ashoka, emphasized the government’s need to address the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the state seriously. Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Ashoka highlighted the growing presence of illegal immigrants engaging in various activities, warning that failure to act decisively could lead to security threats. He called for the formation of a special operation to deport illegal immigrants, stressing the importance of prioritizing safety and security over political considerations.
Ashoka raised concerns about the significant number of migrants, estimating over 15 lakh settled in Karnataka, with a large concentration in Bengaluru. He pointed out the impact on local employment opportunities and highlighted instances of criminal activities involving long-term settlers. The opposition leader criticized the authorities for alleged inaction and harassment of individuals reporting on illegal settlements, emphasizing the need for a robust response to the issue.
According to Ashoka, illegal Bangladeshi nationals have been involved in various sectors like construction, hospitality, and transportation, with reports of criminal incidents linked to their activities. He underscored the challenges faced in tracking and deporting illegal immigrants, particularly in areas like Whitefield and southeast Bengaluru. The influx of illegal immigrants has reportedly surged following initiatives in other states, prompting concerns about the broader implications for law and order in Karnataka.
