The Kerala Assembly recently approved a resolution urging the central government to overhaul the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and the national examination system. The resolution, supported by both the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) and the opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF), highlighted concerns over question paper leaks, examination irregularities, and administrative lapses affecting the credibility of the system. The resolution was passed after rejecting amendments proposed by the BJP.
The BJP legislature party attempted to introduce amendments acknowledging the Central government’s actions against those responsible for irregularities. However, these amendments were voted down by the Assembly. The resolution emphasized the need for transparency and fairness in national entrance examinations, expressing worries over the impact of controversies on students and parents.
The resolution underscored that the integrity of various national-level examinations, including NEET-UG, CUET-UG, and UGC-CSIR exams, had been questioned due to recurring issues. It called for stringent actions against those involved in malpractices, accountability for administrative failures, and reforms to enhance the credibility of these exams. The Assembly also stressed the importance of involving state governments in decision-making processes related to national entrance tests.
