Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticized the United States for what he termed as an unprecedented assault on Venezuela’s sovereignty. He urged democratic forces worldwide to speak out against what he called American imperialist aggression. Vijayan expressed serious concern over the situation in Venezuela, warning that similar interventions could occur in other nations.
The Chief Minister accused the US of interfering in Venezuela’s internal affairs and holding the country’s elected leadership hostage. He condemned the attempts to overthrow a democratically elected government and impose suffocating economic blockades on the Venezuelan people. Vijayan highlighted that these actions demonstrated a troubling disregard for international law and humanitarian values.
Vijayan placed the events in Venezuela within a historical context, citing a pattern of US military interventions worldwide. He mentioned past interventions in countries like Vietnam, Iraq, Syria, and Libya, resulting in civilian casualties and long-term devastation. The Chief Minister criticized the use of nuclear and chemical weapons in conflicts, leading to lasting consequences for future generations.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for international solidarity to resist such actions, stating that Venezuela’s plight could happen anywhere. He drew parallels to India seeking global support against terrorism and stressed the importance of standing in solidarity with the Venezuelan people. Vijayan also criticized the Indian government for downplaying the issue and accused it of showing subservience to the United States.
