Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed worry about the increasing cost and availability of cooking gas in India. He highlighted that the current situation could burden households and impact the service industry if not promptly addressed. Vijayan mentioned that the recent surge in LPG prices has strained common families financially.
The Chief Minister noted reports of LPG cylinder shortages in various parts of Kerala. He also pointed out that the restriction on booking intervals for domestic LPG connections has made it challenging for many households to get timely refills. Vijayan cautioned that the uncertainty in LPG supply could affect the state’s hospitality and food service sector, including hotels and restaurants.
Vijayan emphasized the importance of uninterrupted gas supply, especially during the upcoming month of Ramzan when the demand for cooking gas typically rises. He urged the Central government to step in immediately to ensure ample LPG supply and alleviate the impact of price hikes. The Chief Minister called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to guarantee sufficient LPG availability for both households and commercial establishments like hotels and restaurants.
