Kerala’s Leader of the Opposition, V.D. Satheesan, criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for backing out of a public debate and resorting to social media instead of a face-to-face discussion. Satheesan expressed disappointment over the Chief Minister’s decision and expected a direct debate announcement.
Satheesan accused Vijayan of making false claims without being accountable and highlighted discrepancies in housing data provided by the Chief Minister. He also reiterated the United Democratic Front’s rejection of support from the Social Democratic Party of India and criticized Vijayan for alleged opportunistic stances on various issues.
The Opposition Leader raised concerns about the Communist Party of India (Marxist) attempting to align with communal forces for electoral gains and emphasized the failure of such efforts in Kerala’s secular political environment. Satheesan demanded an apology from Vijayan to the family of a deceased student before engaging with certain groups.
Regarding financial transparency, Satheesan pledged to disclose details of a Congress housing initiative upon completion while accusing the CPI(M) of misusing funds collected in the name of party martyrs. He also criticized alleged restrictions on his media interactions, drawing a comparison to authoritarian regimes.
