North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited the construction site of a greenhouse farm in Sinuiju for his first field guidance of the year. The farm, located on Wihwa Island, is nearing completion after suffering flood damage in 2024. Kim has visited the site five times since the groundbreaking ceremony in February 2024.
During his inspection, Kim commended the builders for their efforts in transforming the island into an ideal greenhouse town. He noted the completion of the construction project and assembly of greenhouse equipment, with landscaping work in its final stages. Kim also expressed determination to enhance the wellbeing of the people and revitalize the regions.
Kim’s decision to inspect this site first aligns with Pyongyang’s push to achieve national objectives set at the 2021 party congress before the upcoming ninth party congress. The upcoming congress is anticipated to introduce a new five-year plan, similar to the previous economic development plan from 2021.
