Kim Yo-jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, has been appointed as the director of the general affairs department of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK). This promotion was confirmed by state media following a plenary meeting of the WPK where Kim was elevated to a party department chief. The North Korean state media referred to her as the “director of the General Affairs Department of the WPK Central Committee” for the first time in a recent report.
Kim Yo-jong, previously the vice director of the party’s propaganda and agitation department, has been known for issuing messages directed towards South Korea and the United States. With her new role, she is expected to wield greater authority within the party, overseeing internal operations and administrative affairs. Additionally, Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader, recently presented a “new-generation” sniper rifle to Kim Yo-jong and other major party cadres and military commanders as special gifts.
The North Korean leader expressed his appreciation for the dedication and trust placed in the recipients, emphasizing the importance of their service to the country and its people. Alongside Kim Yo-jong, other prominent figures within the Workers’ Party of Korea, such as Jo Yong-won and Kim Jae-ryong, were also honored with rifles by Kim Jong-un. The leader personally awarded weapon certificates to each recipient and engaged in shooting practice with them at a firing range.
