Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has confirmed that the request from 20 ex-Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha members to be acknowledged as part of the National Citizens Party of India (NCPI) is being reviewed by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s office. Rijiju, in a letter to Sudip Bandopadhyay, a former Trinamool Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, assured him of the ongoing consideration. The letter also invited Bandopadhyay to attend a meeting of the Floor Leaders of Political Parties in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to discuss upcoming legislative matters during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Rijiju’s letter to Bandopadhyay mentioned the recent joining of 20 Members of Parliament to NCPI and their request for recognition by the Lok Sabha Speaker. The minister sought Bandopadhyay’s cooperation for the smooth functioning of both Houses of Parliament. The meeting is scheduled for July 19, 2026, at 11.00 a.m. in the Main Committee Room, Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi. Bandopadhyay and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, the nominated Chief Whip of their party, were urged to attend the meeting.
The National Citizens Party of India (NCPI) recently celebrated a significant political realignment as its Parliamentary party leaders were appointed following the inclusion of ex-Trinamool Congress members. Sudip Bandopadhyay was named the Floor Leader, Satabdi Roy as Deputy Leader, and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar as Chief Whip in the Lower House. Bandopadhyay emphasized that they would represent the “real Trinamool” in Parliament, starting from the upcoming Monsoon Session commencing on July 20.
