Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reacted strongly to Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghosh’s claim that BJP lawmakers were absent during a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore. Ghosh criticized BJP for prioritizing power in Bengal over honoring Tagore. Rijiju clarified that when Parliament is not in session, MPs can pay tributes at convenient locations.
Ghosh’s social media post, accompanied by a photo, highlighted the absence of BJP MPs at the tribute ceremony. Rijiju, in response, emphasized the importance of understanding Parliamentary practices. The political debate intensified as BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari and colleagues took oath on Tagore’s birth anniversary.
The celebration of Tagore’s birth anniversary became a political battleground, with PM Modi, Amit Shah, and NDA Chief Ministers attending a grand event in Kolkata. Trinamool’s social media hinted at BJP’s involvement in hindering the celebrations. Despite some denials, celebrations honoring Tagore took place in various locations in Kolkata.
