The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has requested a detailed report on the progress of demolishing alleged unauthorized structures at properties associated with Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. The KMC Administrator and Commissioner have instructed the building department to provide an update within five days regarding the status of the demolition at Banerjee’s residence.
Following directives from the state Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Department, the KMC Commissioner, Smita Pandey, has directed the building and assessment departments to submit a report. Notices have been served to 17 to 21 properties under Section 400 (1) of the Kolkata Municipal Building Act, and the Commissioner is seeking information on the actions taken by the Building Department.
Upon receiving the report, the municipal Commissioner is expected to order the removal of the unauthorized portion of Abhishek Banerjee’s property, as approved by the Calcutta High Court. The High Court’s ruling mandates the demolition of any illegal structures, prompting the municipal Commissioner to convene officials for a status update within five days.
Emphasizing the urgency of compliance with the court’s decision, the Commissioner has warned against further delays and indicated imminent stringent measures against Abhishek Banerjee. The KMC has recently issued demolition notices to Banerjee regarding the illicit constructions.
