Kolkata Police have apprehended a man for running a fraudulent job scheme, deceiving three individuals from Kolkata of Rs 32 lakh with promises of jobs at Indian Oil Corporation. The accused, Krishnendu Chatterjee, posed as a government official and duped the victims by flaunting fake identity cards and connections to central ministers. He managed to extract the money by offering false assurances of employment, leading the victims to mortgage jewelry worth Rs 32 lakh, with Rs 22 lakh paid online and Rs 10 lakh in cash.
The scam unfolded when the victims, two men, and a woman, reported the fraud to Patuli police station after the accused cut off all communication post receiving the money. Subsequent investigations revealed that the fraudster possessed multiple addresses across Kolkata, with each location associated with a distinct Aadhaar card. The police discovered five such Aadhaar cards during their probe, shedding light on the extent of the elaborate deception.
The accused’s modus operandi involved acquiring a new Aadhaar card for each rented accommodation, raising questions about the fabrication process and potential accomplices. Kolkata Police officials are currently interrogating the suspect to uncover the intricacies of the scam and ascertain if others were complicit in the fraudulent activities. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities delve deeper into the case to unravel the full extent of the illicit operation.
