Kolkata Police apprehended Faridul Islam, the orchestrator of the recent unrest in the minority-dominated Park Circus area. The violence erupted as demonstrators clashed with law enforcement over the demolition of illegal structures. Islam allegedly spearheaded the protest, initially fueling it through social media posts and further provocation during the on-site demonstration.
Authorities have been scrutinizing CCTV footage to identify and detain other individuals involved in the disruptive activities. Following Faridul’s arrest, the total number of apprehended suspects in connection with the incident has risen to 46. The Park Circus vicinity witnessed intense confrontations, with protesters obstructing traffic and engaging in violent acts against police and Central Armed Police Force personnel.
In response to the chaos, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the Kolkata Police’s South East Division office to address the situation. Standing at Park Circus crossing, Adhikari emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards lawlessness, condemning the premeditated attack on law enforcement. He stressed the importance of peaceful assembly and warned of severe repercussions for any future assaults on police personnel.
