Kolkata Police has integrated with the country’s ‘Cri-MAC’ (Crime Multi-Agency Centre) network to bolster its efforts in apprehending criminals, as confirmed by a senior official on Monday. This move will facilitate tracking down offenders, even if they attempt to evade capture by relocating to different parts of India.

Cri-MAC, established by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2020, is a secure online platform managed by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). It functions as a central repository for real-time information exchange on crimes and criminals among law enforcement agencies across the nation.

Law enforcement agencies and intelligence services utilize Cri-MAC to share crucial information regarding criminal activities. To address communication gaps between state police forces and central agencies, Kolkata Police personnel have been instructed to actively engage with the network.

Under the directive from Lalbazar, Deputy Commissioners and police station officers are required to log in using ICJS (Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System) credentials. They are mandated to access the Cri-MAC portal daily, enabling them to communicate with multiple recipients and retrieve information through the ‘Search Option.’

Every police station officer at Lalbazar has been mandated to utilize the portal effectively. Through this platform, Kolkata Police can collaborate with officers from any police station in the country, facilitating the exchange of information crucial to the investigation of significant cases.

This initiative is poised to aid in the apprehension of interstate criminals and the identification of offenders concealing themselves within or outside Kolkata. In instances where evidence is recovered by police in another state, instantaneous sharing of information will support ongoing investigations. Additionally, national-level alerts will be readily accessible through Cri-MAC.
