The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has cautioned its employees against participating in the upcoming indefinite strike organized by the Joint Action Committee of transport workers’ unions starting on May 20. KSRTC emphasized that as per the Karnataka Essential Services Maintenance Act, transport services are considered a Public Utility Service, making strikes illegal under current laws. Employees have been instructed to report for duty as any absence during the strike will result in severe consequences.
The corporation has made it clear that employees engaging in the strike will face consequences such as “No Work, No Pay” measures and potential disciplinary actions according to service regulations. Management has also directed officials to not approve leave requests unless absolutely necessary and to ensure that transport operations continue without interruption.
The strike, called by the Joint Action Committee of transport workers’ unions, aims to address various demands related to employee welfare and service conditions. KSRTC authorities have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain uninterrupted transport services throughout the state during the strike period.
Public transport services in Karnataka are expected to come to a standstill on May 20 due to the threat of a statewide strike by state transport corporation employees demanding a 25% salary increase and full settlement of outstanding wage arrears. The unions have set a strict deadline for the state government to address their concerns by the afternoon of May 19, failing which services in all four state-run transport corporations will be suspended. Employees are planning a stay-at-home protest, refusing to report for duty.
